Powerade: Difference of a Decade
When I worked on POWERaDE back in the day, the design was pretty different, I’ve the original files I worked on with Coca-Cola to prove it, sadly I never kept any product to shoot and show the old design on packaging, it would have gone bad anyways, or I’d have drank it all.
This is the logo I had worked on just over a decade ago:
And here’s how the packaging I designed that would go on the product looked at the time:
Some other post I’ll explain to people who don’t know what all the technical details are, or if someone wants to ask. Of the artwork, a bit different, wouldn’t you say? Though I like some parts of the design, the almost Russian-era influence modern art meets deco, maybe in hindsight I was channeling the times. Also of note, this flavor was “Arctic Shatter.” At some point some brand manager and gone bonkers with flavors, I think I lost track after they gave me a spec sheet and I lost count around 30. Crazy. Needless to say the only thing more diluted than their product was their brand message. I’m glad to see they’ve wised up and are back down to a manageable six to eight or so.
